Shrek 2 has taken $436m at US box offices

Animated hit Shrek 2 has got eight nominations in the movie section of this year's People's Choice Awards, whose winners are chosen by fans.

Shrek 2, the biggest US box office hit since Titanic, is nominated for favourite movie, favourite comedy and favourite animation among others.

Anti-Bush documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 is also up for favourite movie.

Spider-Man 2, The Incredibles and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind complete that category's shortlist.

Fans' vote

The favourite movie award is among 14 new prizes introduced this year. Nominees for the existing awards were announced in October.

Other new categories include favourite sequel, favourite drama, favourite hair and favourite "look".

In a change from previous years, the nominees were picked by readers of Entertainment Weekly magazine.

Final winners will be chosen by an online vote at the People's Choice website and announced at a live ceremony on 9 January.
