Honour for Rings composer Shore
Howard Shore
Shore won this year's Oscars for best score and best song
Composer Howard Shore, who created Oscar-winning scores for The Lord of the Rings films, is to be honoured by a US composers' institution on Wednesday.

Canadian Shore is receiving a lifetime achievement award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (Ascap) in Los Angeles.

His theme from the final Rings film The Return of the King won this year's Academy award for best score.

He also won an Oscar in 2002 for his music from The Fellowship of the Ring.

Last year, Shore's first Rings score was voted the greatest film soundtrack of all time by more than 40,000 radio listeners in the UK.

At the 2004 Academy awards, Shore was also recognised for best song for Into the West from The Return of the King.
