Roles cast in Beatles stage show Backbeat

George Harrison, Stuart Sutcliffe, and John Lennon of the Beatles
Stuart Sutcliffe (c) died aged 22 in 1962

The cast that will star in the stage adaption of the Beatles film Backbeat has been announced.

Andrew Knott will play John Lennon, Sir Paul McCartney will be played by Daniel Healy and Alex Robertson will play original bassist Stuart Sutcliffe.

George Harrison will be played by Jamie Blackley and Oliver Bennett has landed the role of Beatles original drummer Pete Best.

The Backbeat show will premiere at Glasgow's Citizens Theatre in February.

The story is based on the relationship between Sutcliffe, Lennon and Astrid Kirchherr - the German photographer who Sutcliffe fell in love with.

It was his struggle between Lennon and music and Kirchherr that makes him the focus of Backbeat.

He died at the age of 22 in 1962.

The stage show has been written and directed by Iain Softley - who also wrote and directed the 1994 award-winning film of the same name.
