Actor Patrick Stewart is to appear in London's West End in a one-man production of A Christmas Carol.

The Star Trek and X-Men star will revive the show, for which he won an Olivier award when he last performed it in 1993, at the Albery Theatre.

He will play every role in the production including Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim.

The show, which opens on 6 December, won a best entertainment Olivier award the first time around.

Stewart started out with the Royal Shakespeare Company and has appeared in West End and Broadway productions.

The 65-year-old Yorkshire-born actor, best known for playing Star Trek's Captain Picard, is currently filming X-Men 3, in which he appears again as Professor X.

It will be competing with another West End adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel, the musical Scrooge starring Tommy Steele.
