The book is currently at number 46 in the paperback fiction bestseller list. Sales of other Dickens titles have also risen, a spokeswoman confirmed.

Online retailer said they recorded a 290% rise in Bleak House purchases during October.

They also saw a 31% rise in sales of two other Dickens works, Oliver Twist and A Tale of Two Cities.

A further 2.9 million watched the repeat on Sunday, taking the total audience for the show to 8.8 million.

The 6m drama has a cast that includes Charles Dance, Gillian Anderson, Johnny Vegas and Matthew Kelly.
