Bryan Adams snaps Queen
![]() Bryan Adams has branched out to photography
Celebrity photographer Rankin Waddell and Canadian rock star Bryan Adams have both taken photos of the Queen as part of golden jubilee celebrations this year.
Rankin, as he is best known, is a co-founder of the style magazine Dazed and Confused and is best known for his pictures of celebrities. Bryan Adams, who has taken up photography relatively recently, has been included because of his work with the Prince's Trust. Photographs by Prince Andrew and Lord Lichfield will also be included in a public exhibition. Last month, British artist Lucian Freud unveiled his painting of the Queen to controversy. Eclectic The portrait was described as "thought-provoking and psychologically penetrating" by Charles Saumarez Smith, head of the National Portrait Gallery. But Arthur Edwards, royal photographer on the Sun, said: "Freud should be locked in the Tower for this." Robert Simon, editor of the British Art Journal, tells the newspaper: "It makes her look like one of the royal corgis who has suffered a stroke." The choice of royal photographers for the golden jubilee is quite eclectic. Recently Lord Lichfield said of Rankin: "What people forget is that it's very easy as a photographer to experiment, that doesn't take skill." Rankin's latest book was a stylised study caled Male Nudes. Last year celebrated photographer David Bailey included him on a list of Britain's top 10 photographers. His subjects include Madonna, Terry Gilliam, David Bowie and Thom Yorke of Radiohead.
