Pellow reveals drug past
Former Wet Wet Wet frontman Marti Pellow has spoken for the first time about his one-time addiction to heroin.

The singer - now cured of his habit - told Q magazine he started experimenting with the drug after years of drinking, and was hooked within a week.

"When I first started using it was, where have you been all my life? Then the isolation was unbelievable. I didn't want to be with anybody," he said.

Pellow, whose real name is Mark McLachlan, quit the hugely successful band last year after chalking up three number one singles including Love Is All Around.

After spells in various rehabilitation clinics he received treatment at The Priory clinic in south London and was finally able to make a clean break.

The star, who has also been recording a new album in Memphis, Tennessee, performed at a gala tribute to Liz Taylor earlier this year.

"I have abused my talent but through all this madness it has stayed with me," he said.

Superman star breaks leg trying to walk

Actor Christopher Reeve has broken his leg falling from his wheelchair, according to newspaper reports.

Surgeons spent three hours pinning the Superman star's broken thigh bone back together and he spent five days in an LA hospital's intensive care unit.

Paralysed after a riding accident in 1995, Reeve had vowed to walk again by his 50th birthday in September, 2002.

Friends say this latest setback has left him "upset and downhearted".

Gere's Golden Lion up for sale

Hollywood star Richard Gere has been awarded a Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, only to put it on sale.

The actor was given the glass statue in recognition of his work on social issues and the environment.

It will be auctioned to raise money for the American Foundation for Aids Research (AmFAR AIDS).

Actress Sharon Stone, on the other hand, is offering bidders a chance to own a unique vanity case, which she designed for luxury goods firm Louis Vuitton.

Meg Ryan counter-files for divorce

Just days after Meg Ryan and Denis Quaid were reported to be trying to patch up their marriage, the actress has counter-filed for divorce from her actor husband.

Quaid was the first to take legal action in July after Ryan was pictured out on the town with Russell Crowe, her co-star on a film being shot in London.

The Sleepless in Seattle star has now filed her own divorce request, citing "irreconcilable differences" according to a report in the Daily Express.

Nearly seven decades after her death, the ashes of legendary ballerina Anna Pavlova will be returned to Russia for burial.

Pavlova was born in St Petersburg in 1881 where she created a sensation dancing for the famed Mariinsky Theatre before moving to London in 1912.

She died in 1931 and her ashes were interred in London's Golders Green cemetery. They will be reburied in Moscow in accordance with her wishes.

Cher's US Style Challenge

Pop icon Cher is to bring a new version of Style Challenge to TV audiences in the US.

The singer and actress has acquired the US rights to the show, originally shown on BBC One, in which guests receive style makeovers from various experts.

The US show, for which Cher will be the executive producer, is expected to go into production next year.

It is unclear whether Cher - renowned for her often outrageous outfits - will be making an appearance.
