Twilight star Kristen Stewart up for Bafta Rising Star

Kristen Stewart and Carey Mulligan
Members of the public decide on the winner

Twilight star Kristen Stewart and British actress Carey Mulligan are on the shortlist for the 2010 Bafta Rising Star award.

Stewart plays Bella Swan in the vampire series, while Mulligan starred in the Golden Globe-nominated An Education.

Skins star Nicholas Hoult, French actor Tahar Rahim and US actor Jessie Eisenberg are also up for the prize, which recognises emerging talent.

The winner is decided by a public vote, both by text and online.

Hollywood career

Last year's recipient was British star Noel Clarke - who played Mickey in Doctor Who and won critical acclaim for writing and starring in the films Kidulthood and Adulthood, the latter of which he also directed.

Stewart plays Robert Pattinson's on screen love interest in the vampire movies, which have proved to be huge box office hits.

Mulligan has also been nominated for a British Independent Film Award and a Critics Choice Award for her role in An Education, in which she plays a teenage girl in the 1960s.

French actor Rahim appeared in last year's movie A Prophet, while Eisenberg's film credits include Zombieland and Solitary Man.

Hoult, who starred as a child in Hugh Grant's 2002 romantic comedy About A Boy, also played Tony Stonem in Skins.

Dev Patel starred in the same series and went on to play the lead role in last year's Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire.

"When as found out I'd been nominated for this, it was a great honour," Hoult told the Victoria Derbyshire show on BBC Radio 5 live.

Rising Star nominee Nicholas Hoult alongside last year's winner Noel Clarke and film critic Mark Kermode, discuss this years nominees

"We couldn't believe that I'd been put in a category with great actors and, looking at the people who have won this award and been nominated beforehand, it's quite scary to think that people think I might do as well as them."

When asked whether he felt like a "rising star", the actor said: "No, I feel like a working actor to be honest.

"But to be put up for an award that the public will vote for is very exciting."

Past winners of the award include Bond actress Eva Green and James McAvoy, both of whom have embarked upon a Hollywood career.

The winner of this year's award will be announced at the Bafta film awards in London on 21 February.
