Coronation Street actress Alison King, who plays feisty businesswoman Carla Gordon, has given birth to a baby girl.

King, 35, who was last seen rowing with her on-screen husband Tony, is in a relationship with sound technician Adam Huckett, who works on the show.

A spokeswoman for the ITV show said: "No name has been decided on yet but mum and baby are doing well."

Before going on maternity leave, King was at the centre of the soap's main storylines involving a murder.

Over Christmas, the character Liam Connor, who Carla had been having an affair with, was murdered by her fiance.

Tony told her the truth during Friday's double bill, before she left in a rage in her car.

King's baby weighed in at 6lbs 7oz, the spokesman revealed, adding: "Everyone at Coronation Street sends Alison and her partner Adam Huckett their best wishes on the birth of their daughter."
