Former Alias actress Jennifer Garner has won a restraining order against a man she says has been stalking her since 2002.

The star petitioned for protection earlier this month from 36-year-old Steven R Burky.

In a sworn statement, Garner said she believed Burky's "obsessive, threatening and stalking behaviour" posed a threat to her and her family.

Her husband, Ben Affleck, and daughter, Violet, are also covered by the order.

According to gossip website TMZ, Garner's security guard, Dennis Bridwell, also submitted a declaration, stating that Burky described himself as a "crazed Alias fan".

He added that Burky once approached the actress at an event and gave her roses and a card that read "I love you forever" along with his contact information.

Garner, who has appeared in the films Juno and The Kingdom, is currently expecting her second child with fellow movie star Ben Affleck.

The restraining order, which was granted in a Los Angeles court on Thursday, will remain in place for three years.
