Prince Philip opens doors to ITV
The Duke of Edinburgh
Prince Philip talks with Sir Trevor McDonald in the documentary
A two-part documentary series following the Duke of Edinburgh is to be shown as part of ITV1's new season.

It follows Monarchy, the BBC's fly-on-the-wall documentary about the Royal Family, broadcast earlier this year.

The programme led to BBC One controller Peter Fincham quitting after a preview tape was misleadingly edited. He is now ITV's director of television.

Other highlights of ITV1's new season include hit US show Pushing Daisies and a new series of Britain's Got Talent.

Pushing Daisies stars former Brookside actress Anna Friel and earned her a nomination for the best comedy actress Golden Globe.

'Fascinating chronicle'

ITV's Duke of Edinburgh documentary will feature Prince Philip showing Sir Trevor McDonald around his Sandringham estate.

Vernon Kay

In a statement, the broadcaster said: "Cameras have followed the duke over the past year, producing a fascinating chronicle of the solo portfolio that HRH has carved out for himself."

Other new documentaries announced for ITV1's new season include Martin Clunes: A Man And His Dogs which features the Men Behaving Badly actor finding out the history of man's best friend.

And the three-part Griff Rhys Jones: Greatest Cities of the World will see the comic actor finding out what makes, Paris, London and New York tick.

Vernon Kay is to present new series Beat the Star, which will see members of the public competing against a celebrity in mental and physical challenges.

This Morning presenters Fern Britton and Phillip Schofield, meanwhile, will host All Star Mr and Mrs.

And chef Marco Pierre White will present Great British Feast, "a hunt for the finest ingredients the British countryside has to offer".
