It is not the first time McConaughey and Hudson have teamed up.

In 2003 their hit romance How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days debuted over the same pre-Valentine's Day weekend.

At number six was another romantic comedy, 27 Dresses and in seventh place was The Bucket List, which is about two cancer patients who travel the world before they die.

Sylvester Stallone's fourth Rambo film was at number eight, closely followed by Meet the Spartans, a spoof film parodying Greek warrior epic 300.

Oil drama There Will Be Blood, which is up for eight Academy Award nominations later this month, was at number 10.
