Latin star Guerra leads Grammys
Juan Luis Guerra
Guerra said he was 'honoured' to be nominated for five awards
Veteran Latin musician Juan Luis Guerra is leading the nominations at this year's Latin Grammy awards.

Guerra, from the Dominican Republic, earned five nominations, including album and song of the year, while Ricky Martin and Calle 13 received four each.

Singer Martin was nominated for the album MTV Unplugged, in a list which also saw Beyonce and Shakira nominated for their duet Beautiful Liar.

The eighth annual Latin Grammy awards will be held in Las Vegas in November.

Guerra is known for bringing the Dominican Republic's bachata rhythms to the attention of the music world, but his work also mixes tropical rhythms, rock, jazz and gospel.

His nominations include album of the year, best merengue album for La Llave De Mi Corazon (The Key to My Heart), record of the year, song of the year and best tropical song.

"It's a great honour. It's a great privilege" said Guerra, who listened to the nominations being announced in Miami beach.

Martin was nominated for best album, best male pop vocal, best long video for his MTV Unplugged album and record of the year for Tu Recuerdo (Your Memory).

The duo Calle 13's nominations included album of the year and best urban music album for Residente o Visitante (Resident or Visitor).

Other nominees include Spain's Miguel Bose, Colombian alt-rockers the Aterciopelados, Puerto Rican star Daddy Yankee and veteran Brazilian performer Caetano Veloso.
