Hopefuls try for Take That show

Dozens of hopefuls have taken part in auditions for roles in the Take That stage musical in London's West End.

Never Forget, which will feature the band's greatest hits, tells the story of a fictional Take That tribute act.

The band, who recently reformed and have scored two number one hits, have refused to endorse the show, saying it was done without their involvement.

The show will open in Cardiff on 20 July and tour the country before reaching the London stage.

Craig Edgeley, 17, from Grantham in Lincolnshire, said he decided to audition after meeting singer Toyah Wilcox, who said he reminded her of Robbie Williams.

"He's only 17 so he doesn't really remember the old Take That songs," said Craig's mother Jackie Edgeley, a fan of the band. "But he knows the new ones."

Jay McManus, a 23-year-old from Weymouth in Dorset, said he was hoping to be cast as either the Jason Orange or Howard Donald characters, adding that Gary Barlow was "too heavy" for him and Mark Owen "a bit too short".

"I'm not really a Take That fan, although I respect them because they write their own music," he said.

The show's producer, Tristan Baker, said: "We look forward to creating a legacy with these well-loved songs in the way that shows such as Mamma Mia! have done before."

The music for the show was licensed by record company EMI before Take That reformed and returned to the charts.

As well as the title track, songs in the show will include Relight My Fire, Pray and Back For Good and Babe.
