Settlement in Douglas image claim
Michael Douglas
Douglas' films include Fatal Attraction, Basis Instinct and Traffic
Oscar-winning actor Michael Douglas has settled a legal action against two US media companies who he said improperly used his name and image for their gain.

He claimed that he recorded footage for Family Television Studios and Paradigm Media Group, in Florida, on the basis it was educational and non-commercial.

But the segments were used to attract sponsorship, some of which were never broadcast, he alleged.

The settlement was sealed, meaning that no details were disclosed.

The action sought to halt the firms' use of the actor's name and likeness.

It also sought all profits they made as a result of the collaboration, as well as compensation of more than $75,000 (43,000) and legal costs.

Douglas won the best actor Oscar for Wall Street (1987), and the best film Academy Award as co-producer of 1975's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
