Canadian star Nelly Furtado fended off a string of football-themed tracks to take the number one spot in the UK singles chart, with hit song Maneater.

Thom took the top spot in the album chart with Smile It Confuses People.

Other high-scoring football-themed singles included Three Lions, the classic track from Baddiel, Skinner and the Lightning Seeds at number 10.
