Mr Crosby was arrested in New York in March
Veteran rock musician David Crosby has been fined $5,000 (2,745) by a US court after admitting attempted criminal possession of a weapon.

It follows his arrest in New York in March when a gun, knife and marijuana were found in his luggage.

A count of unlawful possession of marijuana was dismissed and he was given a conditional discharge.

Mr Crosby, 62, a founding member of the Byrds and Crosby, Stills and Nash, will be formally sentenced on 15 September.

Assistant district attorney Mark Dahl said there were " unique circumstances" surrounding the gun charge.

He told New York State Supreme Court Judge Michael Ambrecht that although illegal in New York, the gun was obtained legally in California.

Mr Crosby was arrested at 0100 on 6 March after a maid found a loaded handgun, a knife and a small amount of marijuana that he left behind after checking out of his hotel.

After police were called Mr Crosby discovered he was missing a piece of his luggage.

He telephoned the hotel to say he would return to pick it up and was met by New York police who arrested him.
