Pain forces Bowie into hospital
David Bowie
Bowie has now cancelled gigs in Vienna and Salzburg
David Bowie was taken to a hospital in Germany after complaining of a pinched nerve, forcing him to cancel a gig.

The star performed at the Hurricane Festival in the town Scheessel on Friday but was later taken to hospital with a sharp pain in his shoulder.

He was kept overnight for treatment, and missed appearing at the Southside Festival in Neuhausen ob Eck in southern Germany.

He has now scrapped concerts in Vienna and Salzburg on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Bowie, 57, had cut a concert in Prague short on Wednesday because of the pain.

He took a 10-minute break during his set and returned to play two songs before apologising to fans and calling a halt to the concert.

There was no indication that the injury would impact further on Bowie's 62-day tour of North America and Europe.

Bowie recently suffered the indignity of being hit in the eye with a lollipop thrown on to the stage by a fan.

Although pictures showed the stick actually caught in his eye he was not injured and carried on performing.
