Bardot fans snap up memorabilia
Brigitte Bardot
Bardot still inspires massive interest
More than 200 Brigitte Bardot fans descended on a French auction house for a sale of memorabilia on the star's 70th birthday.

Lots included 8,500 film posters, postcards, photos, magazine covers, records and books.

The sale at the Drouot auction house in Paris came from the collections of 61-year-old Dutch collector Cees Storm.

It raised an estimated 80,000 euros (54,400), auctioneers said, with the final total likely to be higher.

Leading items in the sale included original posters from And God Created Woman, the 1956 film which made a sex symbol out of Bardot, and from 1963's Contempt, among the rarest of her posters.

Mr Storm became obsessed with the French siren when he was 15 and spent 45 years trawling through markets in France hunting for items and even going on a pilgrimage to Saint-Tropez, where And God Created Woman was filmed.

A selection of Elle magazines with cover shots of Bardot from 1949 to 1953 went for 413 euros (280), while a photo from 1958's In Case of Adversity fetched 472 euros (320).

Some of the money from the sale will be donated to Bardot's animal rights group, the collector said.
