Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill: Volume 2 has knocked The Passion Of The Christ off the global box office top spot.

The eight week reign of Mel Gibson's film about the final hours of Jesus was brought to an end by the revenge saga, according to Screen Daily.

It was boosted by a glut of number one positions after opening in 20 countries at the weekend, taking $17.7m (10m).

In the UK alone, Kill Bill took $4.9m (2.8m) and in Germany it placed top, ahead of 50 First Dates.

The Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore comedy was also released in three other countries, including Spain.

With no Kill Bill sequel yet released in Spain, 50 First Dates topped the box office there, taking $967,044 (Euros 817,800) over the weekend.

In Australia, native comedy Strange Bedfellows, starring Paul Hogan and Pete Postlethwaite, made the chart

Argentina, Italy and Spain were among the countries where horror remake Dawn of the Dead was launched, boosting the film's takings by 57%.
