EastEnders star hurt in nightclub
Ray Panthaki
Panthaki was "overwhelmed" with support after the incident
EastEnders star Ray Panthaki, who plays Ronny Ferreira, has been hurt in an alleged attack at an Essex nightclub.

The 25-year-old actor was said to have been hit with a bottle at Faces nightclub in Gants Hill on Saturday.

The soap actor was taken to an east London hospital to be treated for a wound above his eye.

"He was the subject of an unprovoked attack. He is going to be taking a few days off to recuperate," a BBC spokesman said.

Cast support

Mr Panthaki told The Sun newspaper: "I'm overwhelmed with the support I have had from friends, family and the EastEnders cast. Right now I just want to rest."

The incident took place in the nightclub's VIP area.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Police were called at 1.10am on Saturday to the accident and emergency department of an east London hospital following an alleged assault on a male."

Last month EastEnders' executive producer Louise Berridge defended the show after a Mirror newspaper survey found that 57% of viewers thought it had lost its appeal.
