Scarlett Johansson plays Neptune's daughter in the animated film
Bafta winner Scarlett Johansson will voice a character in animated adventure The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.

The Lost in Translation actress will play a character named Mindy, daughter of King Neptune, in the film based on Nickelodeon's TV series.

Oscar-nominated actor Alec Baldwin will voice Dennis, a ruthless hit man.

SpongeBob SquarePants made its US debut in 1999. Series writer Stephen Hillenburg will contribute to the film, released in the US in November.

The series stars square yellow sea sponge SpongeBob, who lives at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean with his pet snail Gary.

Johansson, 19, won the best actress Bafta award for Lost in Translation and earned two Golden Globe nominations for Girl with a Pearl Earring.
