Neighbours 'to make US TV debut'
Neighbours title
Neighbours began in Australia in 1985
Australia's longest-running soap, Neighbours, is to be screened in the US for the first time, it is reported.

The soap, made by Grundy TV and shown in 55 countries since it started in 1985, will be on the Oxygen channel from 19 April, reports Media Guardian.

It will show two episodes back-to-back every day for six weeks.

Grundy TV's chief executive Andrew Brooke told the Melbourne Age website: "This is a sensational milestone for a landmark Australian programme."

"Cracking the US market is always difficult for Australian productions, so we are particularly pleased for all those involved in creating Neighbours," he said.

The US audiences will pick up the action from a 1999 storyline introducing the Scully family into Ramsay Street in the fictional suburb of Erinsborough.

In the UK, the series is shown every weekday on BBC One.

Since its start 19 years ago, the soap has launched the careers of stars including singers Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Natalie Imbruglia.
