Eastwood 'to get lifetime award'
Clint Eastwood
Eastwood, 73, has enjoyed more than 40 years in Hollywood
Movie director and actor Clint Eastwood is to be honoured with a lifetime achievement award at a US film ceremony on Saturday, according to a report.

The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) will give him the accolade at their annual Critics' Choice ceremony, the Hollywood Reporter said.

Eastwood, 73, has enjoyed a career from acting in 1960s westerns to directing recent Oscar-tipped film Mystic River.

Eastwood was "a true giant" of culture, BFCA president Joey Berlin said.

Mystic River is nominated for eight Critics' Choice awards, including two for Eastwood for best director and also best composer, for his film score.

The drama, starring Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon, is also expected to be a strong contender for the Oscars in February.

Eastwood won the best director prize at the Oscars in 1992 for Unforgiven.

Mr Berlin said: "The range of his films and accomplishments is astounding.

"Clint has personified whole genres as an actor. As a filmmaker, he has reinvented them. He has thrilled us, made us laugh and brought us to tears."

Previous recipients of the BFCA lifetime honour are actress Lauren Bacall and Robert Wise, who directed The Sound of Music and West Side Story.

The BFCA will also give its Passion in Film award to Master and Commander director Peter Weir.
