BBC reveals 'favourite sitcoms'
The Office
The Office is a main contender
Comedy fans will be asked to vote for their all-time favourite television sitcom in a BBC special next month.

An initial top 50 compiled from a public vote earlier this year has been unveiled, with entries including Only Fools and Horses and The Office.

Presenter Jonathan Ross will unveil the top 10 in a BBC Two three-hour special to be broadcast on 10 January.

Celebrities will canvass for their favourite shows from the shortlist over the following 10 Saturday nights.

The one-hour programmes will feature interviews with the stars and writers and clips of the funniest moments.

Old and new

Dad's Army, Absolutely Fabulous and Blackadder are strong contenders along with The Office and Only Fools and Horses.

Other top 50 entries include Absolutely Fabulous, Father Ted, Hancock's Half Hour and Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights.

The latest instalment of Only Fools and Horses on Christmas Day attracted 15.5 million viewers, according to preliminary figures.

The first of two festive specials of The Office, broadcast on Boxing Day, pulled in 6.5 million viewers.
