Actor Crowe celebrates first baby
Crowe and Spencer
The couple married in April in Australia
Actor Russell Crowe is celebrating becoming a father for the first time.

The Oscar-winning star's wife, Danielle Spencer, gave birth to a 2.8kg boy, Charles Spencer Crowe, on Sunday night, said the star's publicist.

"He's a healthy, bouncing baby boy looking forward to Christmas," said Wendy Day.

Last week the Gladiator star was nominated for a Golden Globe best actor award for his role in the naval epic Master and Commander.

April wedding

Once famous for hard-drinking and brawling in bars as much as his acting ability, New Zealand-born Crowe has seemingly calmed down since his marriage and his wife's subsequent pregnancy.

Crowe had been dating Spencer since meeting her on the set of the film The Crossing in 1990.

They split five years later when Crowe left Australia for Hollywood.

He had a high-profile relationship with Proof of Life co-star Meg Ryan, but then returned to Spencer.

They married in April at his Australian cattle property.
