Street stalwarts take cannabis
Jack and Vera Duckworth
Jack and Vera are two of the soap's most popular characters
Coronation Street favourites Jack and Vera Duckworth will be seen high on cannabis in a forthcoming episode of the ITV1 soap.

The long-running stars will eat hash cakes accidentally thinking them to be harmless chocolate.

They are given them by Maz O'Loughlin at a party on the allotment.

"Vera asks if they can have one of their chocolate cakes and when we see them again they're both high as a kite," a Street spokeswoman said.

The episode will be shown on 8 September and is being hailed as a "classic Corrie moment".

The pair - played by Bill Tarmey and Liz Dawn - will be offered ginseng beer from organic food fan Maz, but opt for the "chocolate cakes" instead.

"Jack can see cabbages moving and Vera is balancing a banana on her head, singing Carmen Miranda songs," the spokeswoman said.

"Vera asks if she can have the recipe and Maz lets her have it - and she even gives her a bag of her special spices."
