Thousands attend Presley vigil
Fan at Graceland with candles spelling Elvis
The candlelit tribute has become an annual event
Several thousand fans gathered at Elvis Presley's grave to mark the 26th anniversary of his death on Saturday.

The fans lit candles at the gates to Presley's Graceland home and carried them up the long driveway to his burial place.

The anniversary procession on 16 August has become an annual tribute since the star died in 1977.

The star is buried on the Graceland estate in Memphis, Tennessee. He died after suffering drug abuse and heart disease.

New song

A week of events marked the anniversary and local tourism officials expected more than 30,000 people to visit Memphis during the week.

Those waiting to join the vigil were invited to get on stage to perform karaoke versions of Presley songs while others browsed for souvenirs in Graceland's shops.

On the 25th anniversary of the singer's death in 2002, an estimated 40,000 people turned up in heavy rain to take part in the tribute.

Meanwhile, fans have been told that a newly discovered song, I'm a Roustabout, will be released on a compilation in October.
