Gemma Hayes
Irish singer-songwriter Gemma Hayes has won warm praise for her emotionally-charged debut album, Night on My Side, and has been tipped as Ireland's answer to Dido.

She has also won a fan in James Bond star Pierce Brosnan, who was at her last London gig, and her new single, Let A Good Thing Go, is set to be her most successful yet.

She revealed her musical influences and tastes to BBC News Online.


What was the most recent album you bought?
Patti Smith - Land.

What was the first record you ever bought?
What's Another Year by Johnny Logan - age 5.

What song or album had had the most influence over your music?
Hunky Dory.

Where do you most like listening to music - and why?
In bed - because I'm in bed.

What songs do you sing in the bath?
We Are Sailing - Rod Stewart.

Are there any songs you can't listen to because they remind you of something you'd rather forget? Can you say what it is?
I Believe I Can Fly - R Kelly, because I can't.

What song always makes you cry?
The Macarena.

Which song by another artist do you wish you had written?
Weight of Water by Low.

Which song from the past 12 months is most likely to gain classic status?
Missy Elliott - Get Ur Freak On.

Which artists do you currently most admire?
Lambchop & Neil Young.

If you organised a festival, who would be on the bill?
Lambchop & Neil Young.

Have you worked with or met any musicians who you looked up to when you were starting out? How was it?
Ray Harmen and Martha Wainwright. It was fine thanks.

Pierce Brosnan came to one of your shows - what did he say to you, and have you got any other famous fans?
