Doherty, who has starred in Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed, has already given talks to teenagers about the dangers of driving under the influence.

The work-release spell is the minimum sentence, Deputy District Attorney Ian Morse said.

Doherty, 30, was arrested on 28 December and pleaded no contest to driving under the influence in April.
