Town prepares for its Big Weekend

Swindon is getting ready to host one of the biggest free music events the town has ever seen.

Radio 1's Big Weekend rolls into Swindon's Lydiard Park with gates opening at noon on Saturday with crowds of up to 20,000 expected on both days.

Performers including Lily Allen, Scouting for Girls, Snow Patrol and Akon are among the weekend line-up.

There will be road closures and restrictions - details of which can be found on the council website.

Organisers say those without tickets are being asked to stay away.

Wiltshire Police warn officers will have sniffer dogs searching for drugs but that there will be "amnesty bins" at the entrance to the park.

A spokesman said it would be drafting in officers from outside the county and any antisocial behaviour will be not be tolerated.
