Horsforth woman punched by hammer-carrying burglars

A woman was punched in the face and bundled into her downstairs toilet by burglars who took watches and jewellery worth £70,000 from her house in Leeds.

The woman answered the door to two men wearing balaclavas. A third unmasked man was holding a claw hammer.

The men demanded to be told where a safe was kept and pulled rings from her fingers before searching the house on Southway in Horsforth.

Police said the woman received minor injuries and was left badly shaken.

The burglary took place at about noon on Friday 9 April. The men are believed to have driven off in a black hatchback car.

The unmasked man was described as white, about 5ft 7in (1.7m) tall, stocky, clean shaven, with a rosy or tanned complexion, and blond or brown hair, cut short but slightly frizzy.

He was wearing a high-visibility yellow vest. The other two men were wearing dark clothing.

Police have asked for anyone with information to come forward.
