Plans for the new entrance are on display in Leeds station

Plans for a new south entrance to Leeds railway station have been revealed.

The new "curved" and "modern" entrance at Granary Wharf would allow passengers to access the station from both sides of the River Aire.

According to Network Rail, more than 100,000 travellers pass through Leeds station every weekday.

Passengers, local residents and businesses have been invited to comment on the plans being exhibited at the railway station.

Ryk Downes, chairman of Metro - the regional passenger transport authority, said: "Our proposed new entrance will create a faster, step-free route to the vibrant areas to the south of the city centre such as Holbeck Urban Village, Bridgewater Place, the riverside and canal basin."

Network Rail is also planning new stations at Kirkstall Forge, Apperley Bridge and Low Moor.

Subject to planning approval and funding, the new south entrance is due to be completed in 2012.
