The 20-year-old grandson of a prominent anti-gun campaigner in West Yorkshire has been charged with her murder.
Patricia Regan, 53, was found stabbed to death at a property in Marlborough Grange in the Hyde Park area of Leeds on Sunday.
Rakeim Regan will appear before magistrates in Leeds on Wednesday.
The mother-of-six started her campaign against gun crime after her son Danny was shot dead in 2002 in an attack in Merseyside.
A post-mortem examination revealed Mrs Regan died from multiple stab wounds.
Mrs Regan set up a Leeds branch of Mothers Against Guns after her son Danny, 25, was shot at his home in Haydock, near St Helens. His killer has never been found.
She had been a high-profile spokeswoman against gun crime and met government officials to discuss how to tackle the problems of guns and gang-related crime.
Rakeim Regan has also been charged with a separate stab attack on a 45-year-old rail worker at Leeds train station earlier on Sunday.
In the past few hours a candlelit vigil has been held outside Mrs Regan's home by family and friends.
