Girl charged over attack on boy
Woodland near Dewsbury
Police confirmed a number of items had been recovered from the scene
Detectives have charged a 12-year-old girl over an attack on a five-year-old boy in West Yorkshire.

The girl was charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The boy was found on Tuesday near his Dewsbury home with ligature marks on his neck and bruising on his body.

The girl is due before magistrates in Dewsbury on 10 June. Police said they were no longer looking for anyone else in connection with the woodland attack.

Bruised body

BBC correspondent Kevin Bocquet said he understood the girl would be denying the charges.

A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said she had been placed in the care of a youth offending team.

Five children, aged 11 and 12, have been arrested and questioned in connection with the incident.

Det Supt Andy Brennan said the five-year-old had a number of bruises to his body and "marks around his neck" that could be consistent with "ligature marks".

Police confirmed a number of items had been recovered from the scene.
