Historic seaside lift to reopen

Saltburn cliff lift
The lift will operate seven days a week until September

A Victorian cliff lift at a Teesside seaside resort is set to reopen for the tourist season.

The lift, linking Saltburn Pier with the town, will be operational from Saturday, 5 April until September.

Built in 1884, it is the oldest remaining water-powered system using the original technology in the UK.

More than 103,000 visitors travelled in the vehicle last year. The original lift was opened in 1873 but condemned a decade later.
