Town skateboarders are facing ban
Skateboard
There are concerns about damage to the town centre
Skateboarders may be banned from a newly revamped town centre after complaints from shoppers.

Darlington Council is also considering banning people from playing ball games in the Market Square and Skinnergate.

If the proposals get the go-ahead skateboarding will become a criminal offence carrying a fine of 500.

The proposals will be considered at a full Council meeting on 19 April. The designated skateboarding area in Darlington is South Park.

A council spokesman said: "We have received a number of complaints from people about these issues.

"The council is committed to improving the town centre and making it a more attractive and safe place for residents and visitors. If approved, these proposals would help that aim."
