Batman film artist helps aquarium
Mural at Hastings' Blue Reef Aquarium
Images of Hastings seafront feature in the handpainted mural
An artist who worked on the film Batman Begins is bringing his skills to Hastings' Blue Reef Aquarium.

Greg Winter, 33, will create backdrops for the aquarium's cliff tank and open top ray display using images of the old town and Hastings' seafront.

The murals form part of the aquarium's 1.5m refurbishment which took place over the winter.

Mr Winter said it was "very rewarding to know these murals will be around for many years to come".

Easter opening

He said: "I've tried to remain as true as possible to the original images but have also added my own touches to blend the paintings in with the displays to create a seamless transition from the 'real' environment to my pictures."

As well as the local murals, Mr Winter is painting a rainforest scene for the new tropical freshwater displays, and an undersea landscape for the entrance to the aquarium's giant underwater tunnel.

Mr Winters, who graduated from Bournemouth Arts Institute, will put the finishing touches to his displays on Thursday.

The aquarium, which now features such species as tropical blacktip reef sharks, stingrays, humpback wrasse and cuttlefish, reopens to the public on Easter Weekend.

A 15m-long tunnel through a large coral reef tank will be one of the aquarium's new attractions.
