More than 40,000 people saw the Staffordshire Hoard in Birmingham

Part of the Staffordshire Hoard, a selection of Anglo-Saxon artefacts found in a field in the county, is arriving at the Potteries Museum. About 80 of the 1,500 artefacts are going on show at the Stoke-on-Trent museum at the weekend. Campaigners hope to raise £3.3m to make sure the hoard remains in the West Midlands otherwise it could be bought by private collectors. The items were found by metal-detecting enthusiast Terry Herbert last July. The campaign to raise the £3.3m was launched in January by historian Dr David Starkey. The museum is expecting a "bumper turnout" of visitors for the show between 13 February and 7 March. More than 40,000 people saw the hoard, described as the UK's largest haul of Anglo-Saxon treasure, when it went on show in Birmingham in September.
