Doctor arrested on return to UK
Dr Priya Ramnath
Dr Ramnath denies manslaughter
A doctor charged with killing a patient with an injection of adrenalin almost 10 years ago has arrived back in the UK from Texas.

Priya Ramnath, 39, who moved to the US in 1998, is accused of causing the death of Patricia Leighton, 51, from Staffordshire.

After arriving back at Gatwick Airport Ms Ramnath was arrested and charged with gross negligent manslaughter.

She was bailed and will next appear at Stafford Crown Court on 7 March.

The mother of two, who denies manslaughter, was arrested last November after a new extradition treaty between the US and UK was introduced.

She waived her right to an extradition hearing at the US district court in Lufkin, Texas, earlier this month.

Mrs Leighton, from Burntwood, was undergoing treatment for an infected bunion at Staffordshire General Hospital when she died on 22 July 1998.
