Boy dies during theme park stay
An eight-year-old boy has died after he became ill while staying at a hotel at the Alton Towers theme park.

The youngster, who was from the London area, is believed to have woken in the early hours of Monday suffering with breathing difficulties.

An ambulance was called and he was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire where he died.

The boy has not been named and a spokesman for police said his death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson for Alton Towers said: "The park's fully-trained on site first responders were called to the hotel at approximately 3.20am to attend to a guest experiencing breathing difficulties.

"He was transferred by ambulance to hospital, but sadly his condition deteriorated and he died of natural causes at approximately 5.30am."

She added: "All our thoughts are with the family at this moment."
