New film gives safe sex message

Sex message delivered movie-style

A movie trailer-style video has been made as part of a safe sex campaign aimed at teenagers in Rotherham.

The video centres on two main characters who have unprotected sex during a one-night stand, and features local college students as actors.

It forms part of a campaign called The S-Word, which starts on Monday and aims to cut the town's teenage pregnancy rates and improve sexual health.

The film has been given a Hollywood-style premiere.

Fake paparazzi-style photographers and autograph hunters were on hand beside a red carpet as an invited audience were given the chance to view the film for the first time on Friday.

'Really important'

Mikey Turner, who plays the male lead in the film, said he felt "pretty privileged" to be involved.

He said: "Hopefully it's going out to a lot of people and will change a lot of people's lives and make people make the right decision."

Nicola Taggart plays the female lead, who has to go to a sexual health clinic after the one-night stand.

She said: "I think it's really important to be a part of something like this. Hopefully it will raise awareness."

The film will be shown on television locally and features on The S-Word website.

Campaign posters in the style of film adverts will also be put up across Rotherham from Monday.
