A 20-year-old man has been arrested by police after seven suspicious devices were discovered near the magistrates' court in Bath.
Part of the city centre was cordoned off until early evening on Friday while an army bomb squad unit examined the devices.
A series of controlled explosions was carried out.
The devices were found at 0800 BST.
The magistrates' court, a school and a sports centre were all evacuated and a train due to arrive from Swindon was turned back.
All other train services were halted on Friday morning and the area around North Parade was sealed off for several hours.
A spokeswoman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "A number of suspicious
devices were recovered from the area around Bath Magistrates' Court.
"A thorough search was carried out of the areas around the court and a nearby school and leisure centre."
The Princess Royal visited the city's Bath Spa Hotel on Friday but the visit passed off as planned without problems.
