Man faces court over Amy's death

Amy disappeared after leaving a family party
A 42-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of pregnant schoolgirl Amy Williams, 14.

Philip Raymond Powell, of Telford, was remanded in custody by Telford magistrates. He is also accused of committing a sexual act on the girl.

Amy was found strangled on 27 December in a graveyard in Madeley, Shropshire.

She had left a family party in Sutton Hill late on Boxing Day. Her body was found the following day by a man visiting a grave in the churchyard.

She was naked except for a pair of pink socks when her body was discovered.

Mr Powell, of Singleton, Sutton Hill, spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth during the two-minute hearing,

No application for bail was made on his behalf and he was remanded in custody to appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on 24 January.
