Girl, 16, shot by airgun attacker
A 16-year-old girl has been shot in the street by an attacker with an airgun.

The girl had just made a telephone call in a phone box when a dark car with three men inside pulled up alongside in Woodgreen Avenue, Banbury, Oxfordshire.

A man shouted "several sexual remarks" at her before getting out and shooting her in the hand in "an entirely unprovoked" attack, police said.

The girl was taken to hospital after the attack on Saturday morning, where she had surgery to remove a pellet.

The attacker is described as in his early 20s, and wearing a dark baseball cap, jeans, a blue hooded jacket and white trainers.

Sgt Colin Robey said: "It would appear this attack was entirely unprovoked and I would urge anyone who was in Woodgreen Avenue around the time of the incident or who may have any information to contact me.

"The victim had to have minor surgery to remove the pellet but there could have been much more serious consequences."
