RSPCA appeal after swan attacked
The RSPCA has condemned the airgun shooting of a swan in Nottinghamshire as a mindless and cruel attack.

Officers said the swan had been shot twice in the neck and was found at the Sherwood Forest Caravan Park in Old Clipstone on 10 June.

A caller to the RSPCA said the creature had not moved for a day.

The swan was taken for treatment at Mansfield Woodhouse but its injuries were so bad the vet could only destroy the protected bird.

The RSPCA has described the attack as mindless and is appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

The shooting comes at a time when there has been an increase in air weapon attacks on animals in the East Midlands.

In May it emerged a swan which had attacked and killed two dogs had lost its cygnets in an airgun attack.
