Man who ran over cat in Daventry assaulted

A driver who ran over a cat in Northamptonshire has been assaulted by a witness to the accident.

The 47-year-old man was driving a blue estate car on Yeomanry Way in Daventry when a cat ran into his path and was struck by the vehicle.

He got out to check on the animal following the incident on Thursday night when a man in his 20s verbally abused him and then attacked him.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information.

The attacker is described as white, about 6ft 2in with a narrow, spotty face.

He was wearing jeans and a white vest, and may have been in the company of a woman who was walking a dog.
