New chief executive for council
A new chief executive for Northampton Borough Council has been appointed.

David Kennedy, current deputy chief executive with Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, is expected to take up his new position later in the year.

Northampton council leader Tony Woods said: "David Kennedy is a big-hitter who will help us to get the council back on track."

He added: "We had a very strong field but David was clearly the right man for the job."

"This is good for the council and excellent for Northampton," said Mr Woods.

Mr Kennedy said: "I am very impressed with the town. It has massive potential. I am looking forward to working with councillors to help put Northampton on the map.

"But the key is always about the quality of the services that we offer local people.

"I am committed to driving up the standards of the work the council does."
