One dead in 20-man street fight

A man has died following a town centre brawl involving more than 20 people.

The 22-year-old suffered serious injuries during the trouble in Abington Square, Northampton, on Saturday night.

He was taken to Northampton General Hospital, where he died. A post-mortem examination is expected to take place later on Sunday.

Abington Square will remain closed for forensic examination and the man's family has been informed of his death, a police spokeswoman said.

Police are also examining CCTV footage from the area to find out what happened.

"We would particularly like to hear from anyone who was in the Wellingborough Road area of the town centre, which would have been very busy at that time," the spokeswoman added.
