Mother killed as young son slept
Murder scene
A team of 30 officers are involved in the investigation
Detectives investigating the murder of a woman while her two-year-old son slept in the house she was in want to trace a taxi driver and his passenger.

Northamptonshire Police launched a murder inquiry after the woman's body was found at an address in Eastbrook, Corby, at 0900 BST on Tuesday.

Police said victim Lauren Strachen, 19, died from multiple stab wounds.

Witnesses say they saw a man get out of the taxi and disappear down an alleyway to gardens at the back of the estate.

Child left

Officers revealed that the taxi was parked two-thirds of the way up Eastbrook when the murder is thought to have taken place.

Det Ch Insp Tom Manson told a press conference on Wednesday afternoon: "This is a brutal attack, with Lauren suffering a large number of stab wounds and whoever is responsible may have been covered in blood.

"If you have any suspicions about anyone, whether it be a friend, a relative, a member of the family, or anyone who's acting out of character at this time, please contact us immediately.

"Lauren's family are completely and utterly devastated and cannot understand how or why this has happened.

I hope that by revealing this total lack of concern for the child, someone will be moved to contact me and tell me what they know about this incident

"They are standing together as a family through this difficult time and also giving the investigation their full support. And we thank them for this."

The victim's house remains sealed off as scenes of crime officers look for clues.

Mr Manson said: "This little boy was in the house at the time of this murder and the offender left him there alone, also leaving the house insecure when they left.

"I hope that by revealing this total lack of concern for the child, someone will be moved to contact me and tell me what they know about this incident."

A team of 30 were involved in the investigation, Det Ch Insp Manson added.
